Golf Digest recently published an article explaining how to hit short wedge shots that land the ball near the pin. To begin, execute a less-than-full backswing by swinging the arms no higher than parallel to the ground, which will facilitate a shorter and more controlled shot. Synchronize the body and arms with a horizontal shift at the start of the downswing, but don’t unwind the backswing turn.
In the last phase of the swing, push off the ground for power and shift the hip, knee, and right shoulder over the ball for impact. These final adjustments will enable the forward shaft lean and shallow strike necessary for a wedge shot that drops and stops on the green.
