In the southeastern part of Cape Cod lies the first marine preserve in the Atlantic Ocean, called The Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument. It was created by the Obama administration in order to protect the thousand-year-old corals, shelters, and nurseries for various marine species.
The area will be free from commercial fishing by 2023, but recreational fishers and researchers will still be able to take advantage of the pristine marine preserve. Initially there was some concern by sport fishers and boaters about the new marine preserve, but the administration assured them that their activities are still allowed.
The initiative only prevents other entities from engaging in mining, drilling, and commercial fishing. Jeff Angers, the president of the Center for Coastal Conservation, pointed out that there is a significant difference between commercial and recreational fishing. “Recognizing this difference is important to fisheries management and to marine conservation.”
With experience as a CEO and a corporate executive, William Deyesso has maintained a positive record of corporate leadership and management. Outside of his professional career, William Deyesso is also engaged in a gentleman’s farm in New Hampshire, and enjoys other hobbies including deep sea fishing.
Also referred to as big game fishing, offshore boat fishing, and sport fishing, deep sea fishing usually occurs far out at sea, with water depths of at least thirty meters, or 98 feet. Deep sea anglers often take different approaches, depending on the type of fish they are after.
Bottom fishing, used for fish such as grouper and snapper, refers to an angling method where a line is dropped to the sea floor to hook fish that reside there. Trolling is another method where the boat is driven at a slow speed and tows the fishing line behind it. Trolling is used for fish such as kingfish and mackerel. Lastly, offshore fishing is used by anglers seeking the biggest game fish and takes place far off shore in deeper waters. Fish sought after by offshore anglers include black fin tuna and marlin.
